A Study of Organized Retailing with Reference to National Label and Private Label Brands in Indian Context

Abstract
Private label brands are those which developed by retailers and available for sale only from that retailers. These are available in many industries now-a-days. Since the Private Label has come to the picture it has developed a lot. It has been used for the development and welfare for the country. It actually increases the buying and selling power of retailers. Store brands in India are in growing stage. It is difficult to get success quickly in India because of the highly unorganized structure of retailing. In most of the cases it is being explained that the development of welfare with Private Label in short term. Consumers are also benefited from the availability of the number of goods. But the lower price competition amongst the retailers can affect the welfare of the country. The retail sector in India is witnessing a huge revamping exercise as traditional markets make way for new formats such as departmental stores, hypermarkets, supermarkets and specialty stores. Retail is India’s emerging industry, accounting for around 10 per cent of the country’s GDP and around eight per cent of the employment. It has emerged as one of the most dynamic and fast paced industries with several players entering the market. Western-style malls have begun appearing in metros and several other cities alike introducing the Indian consumer to a shopping experience like never before. India’s vast middle class and its almost untapped retail industry are key attractions for global retail giants wanting to enter newer markets. This paper provides information about the growth and challenges of retailing industry in India. It examines the growing awareness and brand consciousness among people and focus on growth of retail sector in India, strategies, strength and opportunities of retail stores, retail format in India and recent trends. Growth of Retail Companies in India exhibits the boom in the retail industry in India over the years. The increases in the purchasing power of the Indian middle classes and the influx of the foreign investments have been encouraging in the Growth of Retail Companies in India.
