Administrative Challenges of Thenmaradchi Zonal Education Office – Jaffna District, Sri Lanka

Abstract
Sri Lanka is one of the country providing education is prominent free services for long times. There are many educational administrative systems introduced by the government of Sri Lanka during the time being and controlled by the central and provincial government. The government of Sri Lanka has divided many zones for the betterment of the educational administration in all districts of Sri Lanka. There are five zonal educational administrative divisions in the Jaffna District contains several subdivisions. Thenmaradchi is one of the zonal education offices and which zone has a vast geographical extent with a large number of students and schools. Administratively these zonal officers facing many difficulties by providing efficient services due to the extensive administrative division. In this context, this study is focusing the administrative challenges faced by the Thenmaradchi Zonal Education office due to its substantial geographical area. primary data have been collected from selected school principals, teachers, In-service advisors and administrative staffs of Thenmaradchi zonal education office through a questionnaire survey, interview and field survey. Primary and secondary data have been analyzed using the descriptive statistical method and spatial analysis with the help of geographical information system. As a result of the study,it can be identified that the most schools located in the much distance from the office such as Ketpeli, Kilali, Usan, Panditharkudijiruppu, Eluthumadduval, Varani, and Sarasalai face many difficulties to get equal education services. Students have limited opportunities to participate the cultural and sports events compared with other zones of the district. Also, students and staff of the schools as mentioned earlier spending much time in transportation during an event organized by the zonal education administration. Zonal administrators of Thenmaradchi facing problems to provide equal and efficient services to all the schools such as resource allocation, supervision and event management. Dividing the zonal education office as Chavakachcheri Education division and Kodikamam education division, would be the sustainable solution for this problem, and it can provide efficient and productive education services to the Thenmarachi region.
