Guardian: Mixed Reality (MR) Combining GPS for Children Traffic Safety Training

Abstract
Traffic accident have become one of the main causes of child casualties. Letting children to learn how to safely walk on the road is a crucial issue. In recent years, smartphone is getting more popular and common among children. In this search, we implement a smartphone navigation system designed for children – “guardian”. Using augmented reality space detection and GPS positioning technology, the design and development is based on children’s love for cartoon characters and games, we created a virtual character on the real world’s road. The educational effect will be created from interaction of guiding virtual character and children. Our study shows that “guardian” system can help children stayed focused and learn to properly react according to the traffic environment. The contribution of this research is that we present a new training system and tool for children to build good habits when using the road, reducing the toll of road traffic accidents.
