Impact of Online In-Service Training in the Public Sector in Malaysia

Abstract
Abstract - In-service training is vital for every civil servant in Malaysia. In Malaysia, it is a must for every civil servant to attend in-service training for at least five days a year. In-service training helps civil servants enhance their skills and knowledge in their respective fields of employment. As Covid-19 has hit across the world beginning in 2020, movement control orders have been implemented where many workers in the public sector work from home. This has resulted in much in-service training being done online to curb the spread of this pandemic. Online in-service training has become an alternative and a convenience to all. This study intended to examine the relevant implications of online in-service training after the endemic phase of Covid-19. This article aims to find out the financial implications for Malaysian government and the implications for civil servants who attend online in-service training. This article uses qualitative data to describe the processes that have implications in the public sector in Malaysia. Doing in-service training online will cut the costs of accommodation and travel costs. Meanwhile, for in-service training participants, particularly for participants with families, their emotions were not disturbed because they were not far away from family members, especially those with small children. This online in-service training has a positive impact on government finances and the emotions of the participants in following this online training. Training in online services should be continued despite having entered an endemic phase and in the future as it provides significant financial savings to the government.
