Explore the Effects of Different Curriculum Designs inside and Outside the Classroom on Students’ Creativity

Abstract
Abstract - The purpose of this research is to determine the impactof different curriculum designs inside and outside of the classroom on students’ creativity. Although previous research had mentioned that learning in nature will induce students’ creativity, the formal class will not let students learn outside all day. Therefore, this study further compares the effects of two curriculum designs inside and outside of the classroom on students’ creativity. Moreover, the relationship between neuroscience methodology-EEG alpha activity and students’ creativity was also investigated. Thirty undergraduate students took part in this research and were divided into two groups: the control group (n = 15) and the experimental group (n = 15). Both groups completed the identical learning tasks throughout two stages: learning outside of the classroom and learning inside of the classroom, but in different sequences. Besides, all participants took the Creativity test (Cronbach’s alpha is 0.87) and had their EEG alpha power values measured in the pre-test, middle-test, and post-test phases. According to the findings of the study, environmental learning has a significant impact on students’ creativity. The results show that no matter learns inside or outsideof the classroom first,students’ creativity will be improved. However, learning inside ofthe classroom first and then learning outside will be more useful in enhancing students’ creativity. This research also showed a positive correlation between alpha brain waves and students’ creativity. The significance will be addressed in the discussion.
