LFC of Two Area Power System in Deregulated Environment using Genetic Algorithm

Abstract
This paper presents a Load frequency control (LFC) of two-area power system in deregulated environment using PID controller based on genetic algorithm. Two-area thermalderegulated power system has been used to investigate various LFC issues. The optimal PID controller parameters have been obtained using genetic algorithm with ITAE as objective function. For each area, PID controller is designed to minimize the frequency deviation of that area and tie line power exchange while various contracts conditions are taken care. The system has been simulated under MATLAB/Simulink and results validate that GA based PID controller effectively work under different types of contract conditions. GA based PID controller performance has also been compared to integral controller, it is found that designed GA Based PID controller is robust and gives better results in all aspects.
