A Systematic Review on Blockchain-Based Authentication and Self-Sovereign Identity Systems

Abstract
Identity management systems currently in use are often slow, centrally managed, ambiguous, and insecure. Moreover, these systems have led to privacy violations, data leakage and scalability challenges. Blockchain is one of the most promising technologies in the current period of technological advancement that aims to address these issues. Blockchain can be very beneficial as a novel decentralized technology for implementing self sovereign identity as it offers transparency, security and trust. Self sovereign identity plays an important role to build a safe and flexible digital identity. In this paper, we intend to provide a coherent view of the central concepts of self sovereign identity and Blockchain. Then we discuss the overview of existing Block chain based identity management solutions incorporating biometrics, smart contracts and zero knowledge proof.
