Paper Title
Numerical Simulation of Flow in A Vertical Slot Type Fishway for Environmental Considerations

Abstract
Dams and diversion dams are considered as obstacles to prevent the migration of fish along the river. The vertical opening fishway is one of the types of fishway that enables the migration of fish upstream of the dam. Speed, water depth and turbulence are effective parameters in fish swimming. In this study, the governing equations of shallow waters were solved in three-dimensional mode in the fish passage of the vertical opening type of Ramhormoz diversion dam using suitable turbulence models to calculate the flow and turbulence pattern. The speeds obtained from the numerical solution are very similar to the laboratory data. In the vertical opening design under the angle of 90 degrees to the flow direction, the fish having the maximum power of releasing 2.56 W of energy, has the power to overcome 2.25 W of energy and is able to climb the way of the fish. The maximum speed of the flow in the opening in this case is about 1.7 meters per second. Keywords - Vertical slot type fishway; Fish migration; Energy depreciation; Turbulence models
