An Assessment On Negative Impact Of Information And Communication Technologies In Society
Abstract
Certainly, the largest effect that information and communication technology use has on society is allowing
members of society to have greatly increased access to information. This can have numerous negative effects such as causing
digital divide between those who can access information and those who cannot reducing levels of education and
understanding due to the vast amount of incorrect and misleading information that is available causing moral and ethical
problems due to the nature of some of the material available. This paper examines how Information and Communication
Technologies influence society negatively. The paper discusses the conceptual framework of the society and information and
communication technologies; and the dilemmas of ICT to the society which includes Economic, Environmental and Political
issues. Computer threats were examined and the ICTs effects on education were provided, with possible recommendation
and solution.
