The Involvement Of Bumiputera Entrepreneurs In Malaysian Small Medium Enterprises (SMES)
Abstract
This study aims to identify factors that encourage the involvement of Bumiputera entrepreneurs in small and
medium enterprises (SMEs). Internal factors such as entrepreneurs’ background, motivation, skills and attitude were
investigated as well as external factors that consist of government supports, credit facilities, and the current economic
environment. This survey research involved 128 Bumiputera entrepreneurs in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur. Descriptive analysis
was used in getting percentage, frequency and mean. The findings showed that the main factors that contributed to the
Bumiputera entrepreneurs’ involvement in business are the internal factors such as skills, attitudes, and motivation. The
current economic environment and government supports are the most external elements contributed to Bumiputera
involvement in entrepreneurship.
