Paper Title
Application Of Fluid Flow Mechanics In Gating Calculation Of Investment Casting Production

Abstract
Gating time calculation uses fluid mechanics principles to execute gate and runner design of investment casting mold design, using Bernoulli’s principles. Bernoulli’s equation provides the estimation of liquid metal velocity to arrive at the filling time necessary for casting production. The filling time does not address the foundry man’s problem of filling thinnest section and furthest portion of the casting. The present modeling attempts to estimate the kinetics of filling by using that principle in some actual casting geometry. The modeling predicts earlier filling of thin section and faster filling the end section of the castings. Index Terms- Gating time, Gate area, Optimum filing time, Hot Molds.
