A Study on the Professionalism of Secondary School Teachers in Guangdong Province, China
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to analyze the level of teacher’s professionalism and the difference of
professionalism according to the teacher background variables. To achieve this goal, a questionnaire survey was conducted
to secondary school teachers in Guangdong province, China. The major findings are as follows. First, it is necessary to
distinguish teacher’s professionalism by sub-areas such as knowledge professionalism, performance professionalism, and
attitude professionalism. Second, teacher’s professionalism is related to the teacher life stage closely. Third, in order to
enhance the professionalism of the teachers, the number of lessons per week should be reduced. Lastly, the professionalism
of the teachers varies depending on the school factors.
