Abstract : Aims and Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of first six months of orthodontic fixed treatment in improving oral health related quality of life (OHRQoL) on the families of adolescents. Materials and Methods: Ninety parents of the adolescent patients undergoing fixed orthodontic treatment answered a OHRQoL questionnaire based on modified Family Impact Scale (FIS) before orthodontic treatment (T1) and after 6 months of the start of treatment (T2). The Wilcoxon signed rank test was used to determine the significance difference in modified FIS scores between T1 and T2. Effect size and minimal clinically important difference (MCID) for the modified FIS were also determined. Results: There was statistically significant difference between modified FIS scores at T1 and T2 (P<0.001).Conclusions: The first six months of orthodontic fixed treatment has a significant positive influence on the oral health related quality of life on the families of the adolescents. Keywords - OHRQoL, FIS, orthodontic treatment.
