Abstract : One of the best method to accomplish global literacy is through collaboration, learning, communication, research and problem solving . This is possible with the invention of new innovative techniques and tools. To broaden the learning and teaching experience, different approaches are used and one of the recent approach used is the Cloud Computing Concept. Cloud Computing (CC) is assumed as the fifth generation of computing after Client-Server computing, mainframe computing, personal computing and the web (Alzaid & Albazzaz, 2013; Khmelevsky & Voytenko, 2010; Rajan & Jairath, 2011). This technology is proving itself in almost every zone. One of the sector in which it gains attention is the education sector. Around the world, higher education landscape is in a constant state of evolution because of the drive among the students of new generation that propels them to a different need of learning as compared to their predecessors. They believe that technology adoption in education is now a need of hour in order to get high quality education. However the process of adoption of these technologies faces a lot of challenges. One of the major unresolved challenge is the continued dominance of traditional didactic pedagogy in which the cursor is on passive teacher-centered approach rather than student centered (P.Y.Thomas, 2009). The paradigm shift towards using more technology is very slow, as both teacher and learner community requires specific skills for technology-supported constructivist approaches. Twigg (2003) reported, “Unfortunately, the likelihood that their adoption of new technologies would foster innovative pedagogy is slim.” After evaluating the state of technology used in higher education at Stanford University in USA, Cuban (2001) concluded “Dominant teaching practices remained largely constant in the years of greatest penetrations of new technologies”. Alhammadi, Stanier and Eardley (2015) mentioned that various challenges are still there in the adoption of CC in education in both the developed and developing counties. In their study, it is depicted that security concerns and government support are more influential factors in technologically developing countries rather than in technologically developed countries. The research paper describes the review of studies internationally and in Indian context for adoption of Cloud Computing in Education especially in higher education sector.
