Abstract : Errors in design can greatly endanger safety and contribute to failures in construction projects. Such failures can have devastating economic, environmental and social consequences. Design errors, however, are almost unavoidable in construction and engineering projects. This study uses the unstructured interview method with 25 consultants who are experts in engineering design in Gaza Strip. The study aims to investigate the design factors that could contribute to construction defects. The results of the study indicate that there are 51 design factors that could cause defects in construction. These factors are classified into the following categories: pre-design mistakes (4), columns axis layout (8), footings (10), ground beams (7), column necks and columns (8), stairs (7) and slabs (7). Keywords - Design, Construction, Defects, Gaza Strip.
