Paper Title :
Perceived Causes and Consequences of Poverty in a Peripheral County of Hungary

Author :Siposné Nándori Eszter

Article Citation :Siposné Nándori Eszter , (2020 ) " Perceived Causes and Consequences of Poverty in a Peripheral County of Hungary " , International Journal of Management and Applied Science (IJMAS) , pp. 51-57, Volume-6,Issue-12

Abstract : The paper analyzes subjective interpretation of poverty in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County, Hungary. The methods of systematic data collection are used to collect data about the belief of the population. The paper aims at finding the main perceived causes and consequences of poverty and revealing whether there are any difference between the objective and subjective poverty explanations. The paper concludes that there is no evidence for the overlap of the attributions for poverty and the objective causes of poverty listed in the poverty literature as only four common items (low education level, isolation, and two items describing labor market problems) were found. Most of the other objective causes of poverty describe demographic factors, while perceived poverty explanations include mainly individual and structural items. The paper concludes that relative poverty threshold coincides with the subjective one. It implies that successful strategies toward poverty eradication have to take the relative income position of the individuals into account.
