Abstract : Film is not only a scene but also a form of social visualization. One of the interesting Indonesian films is entitled "Unggah-Ungguh". This study will discuss the language used in the short film "Unggah-Ungguh" and its implications for learning Indonesian. The method in this research is descriptive-qualitative. Sources of data in this study were obtained through dialogue transcripts between characters in the film "Unggah-Ungguh" using the note-taking technique. The results of the research show that the politeness principle consists of: (1) the tact maxim related to wise character in language; (2) the generosity maxim and sympathy maxim related to mutual helping character; (3) the approbation maxim related to mutual respect character; (4) the modesty maxim related to the humble character; and (5) the agreement maxim related to the character of mutual respect. In its use, the speech in the film "Unggah-Ungguh" uses Javanese, which is adjusted to the age level of a speaker. The Javanese language level consists of ngoko Javanese and krama Inggil Javanese. Krama Inggil is the highest level of speech in Javanese society. This language is usually used to respect elders. Meanwhile, the ngoko language is used by speakers and speech partners of the same age. The use of this language is adjusted to the principle of politeness used in an utterance. This film can be applied as material in learning Indonesian, namely for junior high school students, and is developed into a narrative text. Its application is in the form of turning a film into a short story in which there is character strengthening for language according to age levels..
