Abstract : The study of Postcolonial writing in English achieves importance in the fact that the language in which it is written is the same language that was introduced through the experience of colonization. Taking into consideration the significant role played by the English language in the process of colonization, Postcolonial writers approach the language and re-fashion it to suit their own purpose. As English is reworked to reveal the life of the colonised, the language is decolonised not only at the content level but the form of the language is also brought closer to the native experience of the writers. Different writers have taken different stances to bring this effect and this paper seeks to examine the ways in which English is nativised in the works of the selected writers from Jaffna using Kachru’s nativization strategy (1987) nativization of cohesion and cohesiveness This paper aims to examine and analyse the selected writings of Jaffna Tamils in English to discover the types of linguistic resources they draw upon in nativizing the English language. The writings are also analysed to study the effects the nativization processes have on writers who attempt to express their cultural identity through writings. The objective of this study is to gain insights about the nativization of English by Tamil writers and the findings reveal that Jaffna Tamil writers have drawn upon a variety of cultural elements to create innovative linguistic realizations. Based on the innovations, conclusions can be drawn about the nativization of English in Sri Lankan context.
