Abstract : This paper addresses the role of social science scholarship in the policy-making process of the European Union. Previous literature argued that an associative process termed 'enlightenment' was occurring. Later on, scholars suggested that a more direct type of usage was occurring between social scientists and the political elites that commission their work. My research focuses on the relationship between Brussels and the European Union's think tanks and university research institutes. The evidence collected suggests a more direct, expert-orientated system between both parties. Key words- European Union, Think Tanks, Policy Enlightenment, Research Direct Use, Expert Model
