Abstract : The composite material is composed of discrete reinforcement distributed in a continuous phase of matrix. In
copper matrix composite (CMC) one constitutent is copper which forms network i.e. matrix phase and other constituents
serve as reinforcements which are generally ceramic or non metallic hard material. Composite materials play a vital role at
the present modern industrial sectors. The centre of our research emphasize the production of metal-matrix composites using
the stir-casting fabrication method and preparing samples of varying percentage reinforcements (5%, 10% and 15% by mass)
of Silicon Carbide and Aluminium Oxide with Copper. The major drawbacks of copper based composites are reduced
conductivity and poor machinability . To overcome this, soft phase such as graphite as a additional reinforcement was used.
Graphite improves the machinability of the composites and also possess excellent thermal and electrical conductivity,
thereby improving the conducting capability of copper composites. These samples were tested under the hardness test
,tensile test, optical microscopy were conducted. The basic reason of metals reinforced with hard ceramic particles or fibers
are improved properties than its original material in terms of strength, stiffness , hardness , electrical conductivity.
