Abstract : The aim of this study is to explore tourist motivations and perceptions at the battlefield site on Kinmen Island of
Taiwan. Based upon an empirical investigation, the study draws upon the effective responses of 437 tourists including
Taiwanese, Chinese, and foreign tourists with different cultural background in Kinmen. The study also attempts to disclose
the relationship between tourists’ pre-visit motivations and their perceptions. The research findings disclosed that different
cultural background have significant influences on the tourist motivations for battlefield tourism. The study results
theoretically contribute to a better understanding of the motivational attributes in a battlefield site, and how they represent a
basis for increasing tourist perceptions.
