Abstract : Although a lot of learning takes place outside the formal education and training system, non-formal and informal learning is not recognizedto a great extend today. Formal learning programmes cannot provide all the experiences and knowledge for learners. Lifelong learning phenomena should be developed. Informal learning, as a part of lifelong learning should gain importance and informal learning practices can be supported and taken into consideration when we consider about the qualifications. Recognition of non-formal and informal learning is a breakthrough in rigid formal education system. The opportunities for individuals are endless and cannot be limited to the knowledge-based policy in formal education system. Individuals learn everywhere and all the time throughout their lives and learners’ own learning experiences should be sought out building up the qualifications. In OECD, recognition of non-formal and informal learning is a recent development and it is a possible solution for promoting lifelong learning, especially for the adult population. . In this paper, an informal learning practice that was implemented and great implications was obtained, is reported. The project which was carried out under the programme of EU as titled youth exchange, is introduced to show that learning beyond classroom is necessary for the learners as classroom teaching cannot teach some issues for example awareness rising on cultural differences to be skilled and experienced workers in labour market. Informal learning was discussed from the participants’ perspective in the project and was presented in this paper.
