Abstract : Abstract- The present invention relates to phenol formaldehyde resins and a process for making the resins. In particular, the present invention is directed towards phenol formaldehyde resin having relatively high formaldehyde to phenol ratio when compared with conventional resins. Manufacturing of Phenol formaldehyde resin containing groups of phenols and formaldehydes. Phenol formaldehyde resin(PF) include synthetic thermosetting resins such as obtained by the reaction of phenols with formaldehyde. The optimum properties of a good friction material are an adequate coefficient of friction for the expected usage, ability to retain a constant coefficient of friction under varying conditions. The friction material is made by molding and curing process with a composition of iron fibers, phenol formaldehyde, silicon carbide & Carbon Nanotubes as the major ingredient. Phenol resin is used as a binder in preparing the friction material. The graphite is inseparably contained in the mixture of cashew Nut shell liquid and based on the experiments the material shows a high frictional coefficient and reduced wear rate when compared with the literature available
