Abstract : The study aimed at determining the digital divide among the ultra-orthodox Jews in Israel. Several ultra-orthodox newspapers, radio stations and other media were reviewed. In addition in-depth interviews were held with rabbis, teachers and educational leaders of this community. To counter external influences, they seek to avoid consumption of 'secular' media, including television and internet, which are considered as a serious spiritual threat. Being deeply conservative, they take a very cautious view of the modern world and its IT innovations. Their practical solutions block the free flow of information and knowledge. However, the ultra-orthodox community has been ready to pay this price in order to conserve its old traditions. Index Terms - Digital divide, traditional societies, ultra-orthodox Jews in Israel
