Paper Title
The social dimensions of poverty A study with reference to SMP colony, Kollam, Kerala

Abstract
India ranks 130 on 2018 Human Development Index. 26.8% of India’s HDI value is lost on account of inequalities. The government of India has launched a series of measures on poverty eradication both in the rural and urban areas. Urbanization is a necessary corollary of economic development. The vision of creating ‘slum-free India’ is laudable for sustainable development. The impact of Rajiv Awas Yojana, launched in 2011 is assessed here with reference to SMP Colony, Kollam, Kerala. The paper concludes that the cherished goals of community empowerment, employment generation and environment improvement still remains a distant dream.
