Pedagogic Practices in Classrooms and Workshops at Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) Colleges

Abstract
Good pedagogy practices requires a comprehensive list of strategies that will sustain and attend to produce students in a specific content domain, with a given group of students and a particular lecturer. The aim of this study is to explore vocational pedagogic practices in classrooms and workshops at TVET colleges. The study is guided byVocational didactic relations model. The study employed mixed method. A closed ended likert-type questionnaire on vocational pedagogic practices was administered to the students while interview on the practices pedagogic in classroom and workshop was conducted with the lecturers. Convenient and purposive sampling were used for the selection of the participants. The study sample were 28 students and two lecturers. Data was collected through semi structured interview and students questionnaire. The interviews were transcribed and each transcription was measured with the purpose to explore vocational pedagogic practices in classrooms and workshops at TVET colleges. The percentage of each item of questionnaire was analysis inform of frequency distribution using Microsoft Excel. The findings showed that some part of the TVET colleges’ curriculum are outdated, and the hands-on practical activities that are true reflection workplaces activities are not adequately presented pedagogic practices. Based on the findings the study suggested that the TVET colleges’ curriculum should be updated and the lecturers needs to be upgraded especially in hands-on practical activities in order to prepare the students to meet companies requirements.
