African Nationals Studying in Fields of Agriculture in India

Abstract
To support the Agriculture Human Resource Development in Africa, Government of India has offered Special Agricultural Scholarships for students/faculty/professionals of African continent to pursue Master's and Ph.D programmes from Indian Agricultural Universities. Under India Africa Fellowship Programme, a total of 195 candidates have joined higher degree programme during the period from 2010-14, at various Indian Agricultural University/Deemed University. Agricultural Economics has been the major area of interest by Africans. Maximum enrolments of candidates were from Nigeria, Ethiopia and Sudan. Gender wise breaks up showed participation of 162 males and 33 females from African continent. Indian Agriculture Research Institute, New Delhi and TNAU Coimbatore hosted maximum number of African candidates for higher degree programmes.
