An Investigation on How Gender, Qualifications, Years of Teaching Service, Program Level , Type of Program Taught and Academic Rank Affect Teaching Style

Abstract
Teaching styles are unique to individual teachers as it’s a teacher’s personal strategy in his teaching process underlies his teaching philosophy. Good teachers must not only be knowledgeable in subject matter, but should also be able to recognize individual differences among students and adjust teaching delivery methods that suits their learners and current situations. To facilitate student diversity requires experience on the part of the teacher especially in motivating learners for easier internalization of subject matter. Social networking and virtual world platforms have over the years infused the learning landscape. The requirements of industry revolution 4.0, the learning style of millennials and the current onslaught of Covid 19 have impacted teaching and learning at all levels. The purpose of this study is to determine the teaching styles of teachers and to examine the relationship between teaching styles factors such as the gender of teachers, their years of service, their qualifications, the,level and type of program taught and their academic rank. The current study was conducted on 236 teachers usingthe Staffordshire Evaluation of Teaching Styles (SETS) questionnaire. These teachers were randomly selected from urban, suburban and rural schools as well as institutions of higher learning in and out of Malaysia. Data was collected and analyzed using SPSS 24. A key finding from this research will show that teaching style can dependon factors such as the gender of teachers, their years of service, their qualification,the level and type of program taught and their academic rank.
