Short Story Reading as a Means of Enhancing Vocabulary, Using Vocabulary Self-Collection Strategy in English as a Second Language Among Seventh Graders Bhutanese Students

Abstract
The research used a quantitative approach and included 61 ESL students. This study explores the use of vocabulary self-collection strategy in short stories reading to enhance vocabulary in English- as- a Second - Language (ESL) classroom at one lower secondary school of Bhutan. It will clarify and differentiate students’ ways of learning vocabulary where rote learning is compared to students-centered learning. The study was conducted in the second semester of the mentioned Bhutanese school in 2016. Population of this study comprises 2 sections of grade 7 Bhutanese students. The research instruments were pre and post-tests as well as questionnaire to gather empirical data. The findings revealed that the use of vocabulary self-collection strategy in short stories reading significantly enhanced the vocabulary of seventh graders Bhutanese students.
