Abstract : This study aims to review the tombstones of the first generation of Ukrainian immigrants in Edmonton, Canada, in connection with shapes, epitaphs, carvings, materials and location/direction of tombstones. With this subject, I also considered three elements, religion, age and social status of the dead, which were likely to influence the Ukrainian tombstones. Throughout this study, I attempted to reveal the messages from Ukrainian immigrant tombstones. . Index Terms— Ukraine, Tombstone, Folklore, Ukrainian immigrant
