Abstract : Technical trade barriers between Korea and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) were
examined and possible solutions were discussed. Under the ASEAN-Korea FTA, tariffs have been significantly reduced;
however, non-tariff barriers (NTBs) such as SPS and TBT in each ASEAN country remain largely in effect. This research
approached non-tariff barrier problems through the core values of the ASEAN region. Values that impeded the integration of
the ASEAN area included the lack of dispute settlement mechanisms and a strong legal system uniting member nations. In
addition to examining ASEAN limitations, the improvement of TBT agreement with South Korea was analyzed from a new
perspective.
